Took about month and half since I got him at the lfs. He was always feed live feeder fish. It was getting to be a pain in the ass to go to the lfs and get live feeder fish. So I took someone's advice from a lfs and just starve him. I did and that took almost 2 week. He was looking a little thin but I finally got him to eat his first hikari massive sinking pellets. He ate only 1, 2 days ago and the next day another one. It's a start but I tried nls pellets, hikari floating, beef heart, krill and he didn't want any of it. Actually he was getting the hikari floating pellets for about 5 secs but would spit it out. He did that for 3 days before I introduced hikari massive pellets. So stoked that he's eating pellets cause from what I read and have been told it's hard to get these suckers to eat pellets. Now I I just need my marble datnoid to join the club. He's going on 2 weeks without eating.

How big were your pbass? I heard they are easier to get off from live food when they are 5"+. Wondering about starving mine as well. I believe pbass are easier to get on pellets from a previous experience with tems. Problem is, I have some dats 3" sharing the same tank. I am afraid they might not make it if they are off live food. Pbass be hogging the live food at the surface even if the start to accept pellets.

Mines about 3" atm. He was a hog at live food. I to have a Dat that I got about 4 months ago. It was actually easier with him cause the lfs I got it from was trying to feed there's pellets as soon as they got them. So it only took about week and half after I got him. My pb took while. Now my marble Dat is being a pain on not eating pellets. I have a small firemouth about 2" and right when the firemouth ate the pellet the marble datnoid ate half of the firemouth in his mouth. Right when I saw it I was about to grab the marble Dat and get him out of his mouth. But luckily he spit him out. But yeah, I tried all pellets until I used the massive pellets from hikari and he finally took them. It's more of our will power than the fishes. Cause we feel bad starving them. Now I just have him to get off live fish.
Dats are more stubborn than pb and will kill themselves off starvation. Good luck with getting your Dats off live fish.

Here's some pics of him. Was wondering what kind of pb is he? I'm still so stoked on him finally eating pellets. Ever since that day he hasn't stopped.

congratulations on getting him pellet trained, I have tried starving in the past but almost always give in. I prefer converting to pellets slowly using bloodworms and mashed up pellet. Your bass looks very healthy!

Thanks. It's more on your will power than there's. Last night he ate 3 hikari massive pellets which is the most he ever ate. But he doesn't get them as soon as I drop them in. He usually steals the pellets from the smaller fish when they drop them. I'm going to try hikari floating pellets tonight and see if he goes for them.

Best advice is to give him and starve him. I know we feel bad but they will eventually eat the pellets.
