Most of you here most likely will flame me, but out of the current crop of Republican candidates, Fred Thompson stands out the most. Im so glad he has finally announced he is running. Check out the tonights Jay Leno show as he announces there (I saw a clip from it being recorded earlier)/

For those of you voting in the republican primaries who are you voting for?

Please no bashing unless you can present your OPINION in a mature matter.

I know nothing about him - why does he have your votes? (Who else is running - rep and dem) ?

He's in law and order, sadly that's all the novely some people need to vote for him. I'm sure he is good,so i'll leave my opinions out,i can't even vote yet.

I'm wary politicians that admit they're actors. On the other hand I'm wary of politicians that don't admit they're actors.

Fred has my vote as he, in my opinion, is a very Reagan like conservative. Other then his views that I agree with which are very important, he has (Im going to get flamed for this) that look, stance, and aura that I feel is important of a good leader. Having the agenda is half the battle. Being able to lead is another.

Rudy, Thompson and Romney seem to be the top Republican candidates where as Clinton and O'sama...err...O'Bama for the Dems are the most popular.

rjmtx, I agree with you totally. I think Thompson is the kind of guy that would admit that.

Fred is a Federalist, he believes that the Federal Government has taken too much power from the states. He believes that the US Government should only intervene in the affairs of all states when it is mutually beneficial and important to the country's security and/or liberty. He believes the states can and should govern themselves, and Federal law should only be used when necessary. To put it another way, he wants to clear the red tape that the states have to go through to enact their laws, making the lesser governments more efficient and improving the rights of states to govern as is mandated in the tenth amendment. This falls in line with the Republican platform of a smaller government, which requires less funding. If there is no reason to supercede a state law, then it should not be done. Fred is about liberty. He has my vote too.

And by the way, political threads have a poor history here. Make your point without contradicting/criticizing others. Any flaming here, and it's closed.

Fred Flintstone isn't running? Damn...

Well he pretty much represents the whole republican party.. keep it old school.. :)

I'll admit there's something I don't like about Thompson. But most of them on both Republican/Democratic sides I don't like. I'd rather see you guys vote him in than Hillary/Obama/Rest of the english shouldn't be the "official language"*, H1B visa increase supporting, liars on the democratic side. Or julianni, he'd only bring up 9/11 whenever he was under the gun..

Sadly it will come down to hype/exposure which is dependent on campain funds funded by lobbiest for special interests to get voted in vs. who really would do the country good. Lucky for the canidates alot of people in america vote based on hype/false promises.

*Not saying no one should speak their native language to their friends/family/even local townspeople but no special catering to one ethnicity/language.
