Well I have been working out the plans for a while and thinking of the cheapest way to do it because I have to pay for it all myself (I'm only 15). So this morning me and my brother decided to get started. The pond is going to be 6'x7'x3'. I have one goldfish 9 sunfish and going to get one or two koi to go in there. They are small for now. I will post some pictures of the progress me and my bro made in an hour. So far we have the outline dug out and it is 2-2.5' deep.

man good luck with that. im 15 too and im still trying to convince my dad to build a small garden pond. but we have dogs that love to dig and get into stuff so we would have to build a small fence which wouldnt be a big deal, but were always working on other things so that sucks. but once the basement is finished im going to hassle him somemore about it lol. good luck digging too that must have been fun stuff lol

Yea I had to work on my mom for quite a while. Actually the digging is not that bad but we had to stop because my brother had to go somewhere. So when my brother gets back we are going to resume construction and my cousin is coming over to help us knock the rest of this out. Oh yea and I had to make a little step like thing because we ran into some sort of pipe. That is about a foot deep right there. You can see it on the left in the second picture.

Hope that's not part of your drainfield !
But otherwise cool... what kind of liner are you using. how about your filter ? Lookin' good so far...

Good luck building your pond! I still remember building ours when I was like 8. We had some family over to help us lol. We also built some "steps" in our pond and the koi sometimes use them to bask on! How deep are you going to make it?

The steps will be good for plants. Something I always wanted to do was circle the pond with a raised hump of dirt left over from the dig. Maybe 1 foot. Then after the liner is in, build a brick paver wall around and over the hump. Make it look like a well.

Well we got the liner in and water in. We finished filling it at 11:30 and started it at 10:00. Quite a successful day. Here are some pictures of it with the water and a new sort of fish.

That is my cousin.
I am going to add some more in a couple minutes.

Oh yea and that pipe is unused. It is one of those old clay ones and it is filled in with sand. Plus it has a crack in it so it isn't doing any good anyways.

Chad

that is one heack of a days work! Congrats on your pond. Looking really nice!
