I currently have 3 tanks running (90,55,10) I had a total of 4 small crappy million air and tetra air pumps and it got to the point where it sounded like a bee hive in my house. I decided to get a real pump. At first I ordered the larger Super Luft but it was on back order. I was OK with that because I heard it was too loud anyhow. I then decided to spend a bit more and get an Alita AL-6A from kensfish. The Alitas are linear air pumps but still utilize a diaphram so they are not as loud asthepiston pumps (the diaphram kits are affordable too). I also got the optional 12 outlet manifold which is really a nice unit.
Not only is this thing built like a tank and can run 20 or so sponge filters, it is very quiet, no vibrations at all. The only sound you hear (when my cabinet door is open) is the sound of air escaping from the valves I have open to let excess air escape. At the moment even with 4 sponge filters this thing is overkill but I plan to start a 20 gallon with just sponge filters in it so I have spare cycled filters and this pump will allow me to do that easily. So if anyone is looking for a real pump to replace their crappy plastic ones this small Alita is nice.
