After looking for months and driving miles and miles scouring every store in my area, I found a baby delhezi.

Right now all my polypterid are about 4-6", I have 2 Senegals, 1 Endlii, and 1 Ornate. They're being kept with my gars. I bought the Delhezi and he's only 2" long so I'm gonna beef him up good before I put him in his second growout.

Anyone have legit experience with them, do they grow fast? I can read up all day online, but I'd rather hear it straight from other poly keepers. I'll get a picture up of him tomorrow. He's such a cutie.

i dont know about the others but the sen grows fast till bout 6 inches then slows down. since u got a endi what size tank is it goin into?

Sweet I'm still hunting. I'd like to find anything other than Senegals.

My Senegals are both around 5" right now, they grew really fast. I bought them 3 weeks ago at like 3".

Right now they're in a 66 gallon growout tank, they'll be in a 190 son enough.

Thats how I felt when I first started to collect, all I could find anywhere was Senegals, I like them, they're really cute but I wanted something different looking. I found an ornate one day and I almost died of excitement. Now my LFS will call me as soon as they get in polypterus because I'm still looking for a lapradei and possibly others. I love having polypterus, they're so cool to watch!

I think the growth rate is about the same as the senegal...

yeah it'll grow fast up to about 6", but make sure you keep it in a clean aquarium, low-stock, high temps *80F, and high protein meaty foods like fish and shrimp.

I love tilapia because it is easy to chop up the fillet into tiny pieces for smaller bichirs.

i feed my palmas some kinda custom mixed flake food, krill, cichlid gold an if i feel like buyin a goldfish that day lol an he is almost 9 inches

IME Senegals grow from 3"-8.5" in about four months and then slow to about an inch every month until they reach their max (mine is at 9.5" right now and had him at 3" in July) Dels might be the same

My 66 is pretty overstocked, but they all have a lot of room still. I have all of my polypterus, and 2 clown loaches as my bottom dwellers, then 4 gars, an arowana and oscars. The gars and arowana never leave the top, and the polypterus only leave the bottom for air.

I feed all my fish a varied diet. All the food I have for them at this moment are:

Rosy reds
Small comets
Bloodworms
Blackworms
Superworms
Tilapia
Brine Shrimp
Krill
Predator Sticks
Bottom Feeder Pellets
Cichlid Gold I think it's called
Colorbits

They really get a bunch of different food at different times. My fish food stock may as well be a pet store. :p

I really hope that tank is a growout or you've got to find more homes/tanks for them....I would avoid Goldfish at All Costs they have thiaminase which can cause thiamin deficeincy(sp) IMO
