Is there anyway to estimate a fish's age? I bought my lil Midevil when she was about 3 inches and had some beat up fins from the bigger ones in the tank (All healthy now :)). I've had her for about a month and a half and she's grown about an inch as well as laid eggs twice (might be getting ready for more :P).

I'm sure its less than six months old. some midevils i grow out went from eggs to about 1" in 8 weeks or so.
they can grow around an inch per month for a while but a few different things that have effects on that.

I'm sure there are some species for which age can be estimated through visual clues, but in general, I'd think the estimates are so wide that it's all but pointless. I'd imagine that many can be more accurately aged with expensive equipment, but again, all but pointless.

Does it matter or is it simply a question of curiosity?

I think to probably make an accurate guess, you'd need to dissect the fish; other than that you'd pretty much have to go on the size of the fish, assuming that water parameters were spot on as to avoid stunting
