Hey guys my tank keeps getting stirred up by my new shark (horn) and the water temporarily clouds till the filter can clear it up(30-60 minutes). I have a base of crushed coral with fine sand on top. Eventually the crushed coral will stabilize it I am sure but till then? Is this a major concern or should I add more filtration to keep the tank clearer?

Thanks!

IF its a new shark, probably just getting settled in and will stop stirring soon, all my bamboo sharks did the same thing until they finally got some good hiding places under some of my rocks. If nothing else you could make a cave for them to have a place to hide. this is just what I have noticed from my experience anyways.

are you sure the crushed coral is alright for the shark? The fine sand will end up on the bottom with the other on top.

This is really fine crushed coral and the sand above it is fairly thick. Eventually the crushed coral will just be peaking though as the sand gets moved around. I've seen this combo used before and it looks great.

I was just more concerned about the fine particulate in the main tank until the filter removes it.

I was more concerned about the coral scratching up the belly of the shark, not how it looks. Don't you think? Maybe it's ok though.

Once agains this is FINE crushed coral. It will not scratch up his belly. Yes looks don't matter at all. I was simply stating that it will mix together not rise to the top as you mentioned.

Back on track though I didn't know if anybody had any tips or tricks to prevent it from happening. The cave idea/new home makes sense so it may stop in a few days/weeks.

The stuff getting stirred up could be live bacteria in the substrate and there is nothing to do about it.
At least you know two things;
1) Your filter works
2) You have beneficial bacteria in your substrate.

ok my mistake, I assumed the crushed coral was the same as I see at the lfs which looks like broken up or crushed, not real fine like course sand.
