I have been thinking of switching out my gravel to the real fine substrate. I know I'm always reading of isssues with it getting into filter system motors. Do most of the companies still honor warranties if a motor burns out etc. from using sand etc?

I use White Pool Filter Sand with some Black Diamond Blasting Sand mixed in, I have no problems with sand in my filters. I think that if the filter has a warranty then it shouldn't matter on what substrate you use in the tank that may damage the filter.

Let me add another question? Any of you out there with the large Cichlids fine they like to dig it up as bad as stanard gravel? I love to get the stuff as I think it looks allot better and I have a short move across town coming up so I thought it be a perfect time.. On this tank I do run one HOB, I guess thats my question will Hagen replace a motor on say a AC110 after three months if it burns out from that fine stuff?

I never read the fine print on those warranties just wondered if they may include a disclamer due to the risk being so much higher?

i have a large male jaguar cichlid he loves to dig but he doesn't dig as much as he would with standard gravel in the tank, the sand just falls back into his hole.
IDK if Hagen will replace a motor on your AC110 but if you get White Pool Filter Sand then you shouldn't have to worry about it. I also have an AC110 on one of my tanks and i have never had any sand in it.
