Question for you MFK, if youd be so kind!

Im looking to use two 500 watt finnex titanium heaters and controllers on my turtle pond. Now since their controllers only hold 800 watts, id need two, which isnt a big deal because they arent that expensive on kens fish.

It says an 800 watt uses 9 amps, while a 500 uses 4.5 amps.

So with this route, would i get an extra 200 watts of heating for the same draw on my circuit? Or am i being mislead?

Or are there any controllers that i can plug 1000 watts into that come prewired?

Thanks!

Just buy the finnex 500 w heaters that come with the temperature controller. They're only like $30-40 each and well worth it. Mines very accurate to within 2 degrees.

Thaaats what i thought. Cool thanks a lot strollo. Just ordered two of them on ebay and realized the guy lives 40 minutes from me haha.

Im thinking a cycling of two 500 watts will be great for my pond. Its got about 150-180 gallons of water, plus about 60 in the sump. Sump is covered, more than half partial lid on the pond.

If possible, put the heaters in the sump. It will take a lot less energy to heat 60 gallons rather than 180 and the water is constantly moving. Will save you money. I would also set the heaters about 3-4 degrees apart so only one is working. Unless it's really cool and you need both running at the same time.

Yeah they were going to be in my sump. I have plenty of room. My basement temp is in the low 60's, but before i turn on the cold water drip my two 300 eheims could run all the time and keep it a solid 80 degrees, so i think im alright.

And how do you suggest setting their temperature with the 3 degrees apart?

On the thermostat dial that comes with them. You can set one at 75 and one at 72 so they both don't kick on at the same time but if the room is that cool, you may need both running at the same time
