Hey all, I've seen Finquel marketed as an anesthetic for fish in the past and never really had much use for it because I never really kept anything venomous or at the very least difficult to contain if I had to move or treat the fish. I was wondering if anyone knew where to find this because I figure if I need to move or treat or examine my ray more closely, anesthetizing it would be a good idea in lieu of being darted. I think it's mentioned in the Barron's FW Ray book or the Aqualog Special. Aside from availability what are some opinions on this stuff, obviously an overdose of anesthetic for any animal will be fatal so I suppose I'm definetly aware of that.

Nice thread! I'm curious , as well. Could be used for shipping to calm the ray, as well, I suppose. Does it contain clove oil? I know puffer fish owners use clove oil for this purpose.

As far as i know it is clove oil. Ive considered using just clove oil but i was worried about concentration or any unknowns.

Finquel (MS-222) is not the same as clove oil. I have used MS-222 with bony fishes, but not with rays/sharks, for implantation of internal acoustic tags. If you do decide to purchase this anesthetic, please read the information carefully and have a complete understanding of the correct concentration and how fish react to it. I wouldn't suggest its use for shipping purposes either.
