Does anybody have any experience with these little newts. Need to know the best set up for them. I now know now that they prefer cold water but when i first bought him it was an impulse buy and the shop assistant assured me i could keep him in a community tropical tank.
Within a day or so of putting him in my tank, he disappeared! I checked every where for him. In my filter, behind and under my tank. Ripped the whole tank apart. He was nowhere to be found. I came to the conclusion that he'd died and been picked apart by my other fish or he'd escaped. Either way I thought he was dead. That was almost three weeks ago.
So imagine my surprise when I was sitting on my sofa with my partner a day ago, watching the t.v. When here comes this little black newt, having a leisurely stroll across our wooden flooring. He is only 2 " long and really skinny.
He is now in a small plastic tank, maybe a foot in length. With a sloping gravel base, bout 5 inches of water and a bit of protruding bog wood.I've tried feeding him bloodworm, bits of prawn and catfish pellets but he doesn't seem to be eating.
What else can I do to make life better for him?
