Hello,
I'm going to be picking up a 150g or 180 cube tank soon (don't know which, the person said 150, but also said it's footprint was 48" x 36" which would make it a 180, I think). I am planning to put a school of Elephantnose fish (7-9) in there along with a fire eel. But I'm wondering what else I could put in with them. I do like bichirs and would consider one, but I think even the Senegal would be too big with the fish load and too aggressive for what I want. I also like reed fish, which is more peaceful, but again, I don't know if I should get another large, bottom fish, especially since they need to be in groups. I'm thinking it might be better just to get the smallest schooling fish I can get away without the eel eating them, so the tank isn't over stocked. Would a full grown fire eel eat Denison barbs? Also, I assume silver hatchets would be out, even though they stay at the top? The other fish I was thinking is maybe a Festivum, because they get big enough (I think) but are more timid, which is all the ENs can really handle because of their slow feeding habits. Any other ideas on potential tankmates? or comments on any of the fish I already mentioned?
Thanks!
P.S. I am aware of how big the fire eel gets, hence not wanting too many fish other than him and the ENs.
I am also pretty familiar with ENs needs (I think I have literally read everything the internet has to offer, including some scholarly articles!), but would love to be directed to where on the forum I might find other EN keepers, and get some insights into keeping them in groups.
