I'm scared as I don't see his body head nothing is it normal or should I dig him out and take out most of the gravel?

Fire eel burrowed into gravel

Never had a fire eel, but my peacock eel buried himself all the time. Half the time, he didn't even poke his head out. He'd come out at night, after the lights went out. I went searching for him the first few days I had him, but pretty soon I gave up.
Have you had him long? Is this new, for him to bury? If you just got him, I wouldn't worry. Normal eel behavior.

He came up after I stirred up the gravel he's put on some girth since the photo about a fingers width I have seen him in the gravel but not full body

Just leave him. They like burying themselves. My fire eel and tire track eel used to do it all the time

My Tt eel used to bury himself all the time and eat all the snails etc that were in the sand

yeah in the future I'de leave him be.. he's more likely to get hurt if you start digging around. my lil' guys always hide.. then after a few monthes and inches thay stop burrying.. and before you know it they are out begging for food everytime they see you.
I figured I would hurt him to so I just let him be I love my eel so cool
