The lfs finally has a couple fire eel up for sale. I've been wanting one for awhile, but they are not really black at all. They are about six inches, would they darken up with age? Or will they stay the olive color they are now?

They will darken up, they are likely washed out from stress. As with other fish species, good water, good food and good genetics all play a role in fish coloration. BUt I haven't seen a fire eel that wasn't almost pitch black in the right set-up.
