Have had my fire eel for maybe 6 months, he is getting on for a foot long now, yet still doesnt have a hint of red on him.

Originaly thought it was because he was young, and the yellow would in time turn to red, but it doesnt seem to be looking like it will.

So my eel where most are red, mine is yellow, is this normal?

I'll try and get some pictures, but he is kind of reclusive and when he does come out he darts about alot making pictures difficult.

i have 5 fire eels and all of them have at least a tiny bit of red. i do have one that is almost tan in color with some medium brown and yellow but he still has a spot of red right behind the yellow on the sides of his head. i wouldnt worry about it im sure hes fine, he just has a special color i would guess. i have 19 eels total and several of each type and they are all a little different as far as colors and patterns. I noticed gravel/light can also make some difference to the color of my 3 fire eels. but I'de say yours color is liekly specific to where it was collected. many fish show slight color differences in this manner. One of mine actually has patterning similar to a TT when the lights are on. I'de only worry if it looked "washed out"
