I just purchased my newest eel- A 6-7" long fire eel! He/she is in a 125G with my x5 bichirs and large P. Afer knife. The only conflict I could foresee coming true, did, and now I am looking for some assistance it treatment...
My knife nipped my eels tail and now I can (faintly) see a bit of fuzz on and around the affected area of the wound. Because my eel is still shy in its new surroundings I am trying to not stress it out anymore...QT tank is out, but IME this damage is not extreme enough yet for this.
I will be increasing the temps a bit more cause it's starting to cool down now in my fish room, but I wanted to know if it was advised to add some aquarium salt to aid in his recovery. I usually add some salt after waterchanges, but apologetically I haven't kept track of the amounts. (about a handful in the sump that feeds x2 45's and the 125)
I rearranged and cleaned 2 days ago giving the eel many hiding places and to 'entertain' my knife- I think it was only an exploring bite as there is no way my knife is big enough to consider the eel food-my eel is bigger than my smallest poly...My knife is just getting a little ornery in his teen years.
