Has anyone got any advice on getting a fire eel onto some sort of dried food? I'm allergic to bloodworm so i'm looking for something other than that. Any ideas?

Put any food that you want to feed in a turkey baster and fire it across it's face, I recommend something like small krill and daphnia but you may want to mix bloodworm in for the first week, the movement as it comes out simulates live food, keep your hands in the water and they gradually recognise your hands as food, then throw away the baster and hand feed.....then mix in all types of food.

Guess the largest food you think they can swallow and then double it, mine takes the biggest chunks of food.

NICE!!!!! such a great response! I'm sure this will be better than anything that I have come up with!!!!!

+1 using a baster for the worms & etc~ there might also be other kinds of foods such as shrimps/earthworms you could feel him that [hopefully] you're not allergic to x3 to get my american eels pellet-trained off of bloodworms i had to use persistence and they eventually took to the pellets, but they accept both now.

Had a close scare, thought my eel dissapeared, somehow got into a tank ornament and i had to destroy the ornament to get the eel out! no damage to the eel!!!!!! phew! no more decorations from petsmart!

So I feel like i might be able to get away with feeding him Tilapia. It's pretty cheap, any idea if it's safe and healthy? I could freeze it and just shave it with a fine cheese grater...... thoughts?
