I just got a new fire eel (4in) from the store and introduced him into the tank. I've been trying to feed him fozen bloodworms but I never see him eat. I was just wondering if they take some time to adjust to a new community or if I should be concerned. He's in my tank with 10 barbs and 2 striped raphael cats.

He may or may not eat the frozen worms. Of course, he may also just be eating them at night when you aren't looking. Your barbs might also be eating all the worms before the eel can get to them.

Try small ghost shrimp. Small eels are really hard to keep alive because they refuse to eat anything but live food.

My fire eel never ate anything but live food: earthworms and ghost shrimp. He was a lot bigger than 4 inches, though.

Good luck with the eel!

fire eels can be really picky when young. mine only ate regular worms till the size of 35cm. After that they started eating mussels and shrimp too. Now they also eat fish filet. try normal earth worms. Mine never ever refused those. get used to the idea they might not take anything else when young.

Mine had no problem with frozen bloodworms. Yours might still be acclimating or having trouble competing with the barbs and cats.
