anything i can do to get him to come out more during the day?

i sit in the room with the tank a lot and catch him wandering around once or twice and thats about it all day and was wondering if there is anything i can do about it

I hand feed my fire eel so he comes out quite a bit when im near the tank & he has plenty of places to hide i think that helps with confidence aswell , but like the guys have said they are much more active at night .

so am i :P thats why i expected to be able to see him some

thats my next mission :P

yep handfeeding, and turn the light off or use a dimmer light. my fish get indirect light but I rarely turn the tanks light actually on. It goes on and my 3 dive for cover. otherwise they are flitting around constantly, and get rather boisterous whenever i enter the room. They are at a point now they will start attacking each other when I walk in, and settle down once they realize there is no food forth coming. bad habit i need to break them of. My Oscar also leaves them alone as long as the light is off, but when it goes on he'll go after them. so depending what else is in the tank it may be an aggression issue as well.

lol if there is an agression issue its him :P

he is in with about 15 fancy guppies and 2 angels, hes in the community tank till the big one gets here sunday and maybe even for a week or 2 after that :)

he doesnt come out when he can see the sun through the window or when the tank lights are on, if its just room light or pc monitor hes all over the place, he even wormed his way into my fx5 output =.= twice that ive seen

hes getting more active and likes the have staring contests at night but during the day he just sits under the drift wood.

only way to get him out is live blackworms, anything else he can wait till dark for :irked:

My two little guys were very shy at first. Once they hit the 9" mark, they started getting more and more friendly. It took some patience, but I hand fed every meal. I started out just holding the food for a little bit, and then passing it towards them. I now have two eels that are 2x 19-20" and one that is about 24". They are super friendly, and out at the top begging whenever I'm by the tank. I just have to watch my fingers since I'm sure the eels don't differenciate between large earth worms and fingers dangling in the tank. It doesn't hurt, but it can scare the crap out of you when you're taking a water sample or something and someone comes by and tries to eat your fingers. :)
