SOOO EXCITED go a fire eel coming in tomorrow cant wait ,

quick questions
i got a few tanks not sure where i want him just yet the guy said hes about 12-15in long

do you think he would be ok in tank with 2 9in or so oscars the gravel i have in that tank is much more suited for his likening very small soft gravel?

are they aggressive eaters? if i put him in my tank with my bicher and rope fish they are really slow eaters and take there time i wouldnt want to starve them :headbang2

The fire eel will be a slow eater as well, I'd put him in with the bichirs as the Oscars will eat most of the food available to the fire eel.

Also, they do not burrow as often as most people think, they prefer caves or PVC pipe.

u probably could house it with the oscars, i have mine with a clown knifefish, all i do is hand feed it. but if it doesn't trust u and wont eat, move it to the other tank.

ooo sweet good to know thanks my cichlid is all caves and mountains and what notmaybe ill see where he likes it the best i wanna make him happy :welcome:

Just make sure there are no openings in the top or into the filter. Make sure there are not any places for the eel to go and get stuck or any stacked rockwork that can be knocked over when burrowing.

Ha! Maybe at first, and I agree its a good idea to put him in with the bichirs, but once happy and established they can be real pigs. I had a hard time getting shrimp to my big ornate and dat with my old 18" fire eel, he'd stick his head a couple of inches out of the water to grab shrimp from my fingers!

SWEET ive been reading and reading about them so happy i was able to find a guy with some at the right price!!!!!!!
