Okay I got a 15" fire eel he's been good for a long time well I find out one morning I look for him can't find him anywhere! I freak out well I look into my emperor 400 and there he is in the bottom of it just chillen loving life. I take him out well that night I turned the lights off and starting creepin watching him I see he swim up the output! I've looked online found nothing on how to block him from swimming into the filter. I need your help before he commits suicide! I know one option is just to do all canister filters but I don't have the money right now someone please help!

you could try putting some foam padding there so he can't get past it or use some type of plastic mesh. just super glue the mesh along the output of your 400, and you're fine.

agreed ^^^^^^

Okay so super glue mesh to the outsides of the outflow? Will the super glue hurt the water? Also could ya explain a lil more let's just say me + innovate something don't go together just let me know thanks like foam wouldn't it like not flow throw? Like try to go over or mesh like it would have to stand vertical out from the black plastic like a overhang? Bc theres not much to mount to since everything stays wet

super glue is fine, it won't hurt your water.
basically, just cover all open area with the mesh. so just put the mesh over the opening or around the HOB and top so the whole opening is covered. prolly better to cover all the opening since you don't want your eel to slip out of your tank and die. (laying flat over the open area).

a sponge won't make a huge difference in water flow, we use them on sumps and canisters and HOBs all the time.

here's a quick sketch over to help you understand.

there are a few ways you could do it. i don't know how open the top of your tank is or what kind of lid it has, so choose which you think is better.

1. the orange is where you could glue the mesh vertically over the output of the 400.

2. the blue is your "glass top" or whatever you may have on your tank. this is horizontally (redundant i know :P ). the green is mesh that you can cut to fit around your 400 that could lay on your glass as well, so that there are little to no openings for your eel to escape. water flow will not be affected either way.

if no luck with that just lower the water a little bit, My fire eel was a Olympic jumper when I first got him, so a inch or 2 lower water and hes not suicidal anymore! :D
