a few Qs.
the lfs has some and i was thinking of getting one.
but i know crap about them.
how fast do they grow?
they get to around 3 feet right?
they are great escape artists?
what to feed them?
i wanted to get one,
but i would have to put it in the smaller tank to grow it otherwise it would be eaten by my other fish.
my smaller tank is covered but if the eel wanted to get out it could easily.

yes they get around three feet an if your worried about it escaping, just lower the water level to by about four inches (depending on what size tank you have), thats what I do and ive never had anything jump out (but this might not work with large specimens so just use something to cover all opening, doesn't matter what as long as it doesn't know the hole is there)
feed small ones bloodrowms and glassworms and feed larger ones earthworms etc...

Extremely smart at escapeing....A non secure tank is asking for trouble-Also love to hide in filters....
Yep around 3 foot.....
I feed mine a variety of raw seafood when bigger,When smaller I used live blood worms and chopped raw shrimp....
I have had growth rates of over a foot per year..

they don't grow real fast usually around 1'' a month or so sometimes slower

yep will get to about 3 feet ,1 meter 40'' max

sure are keep them we'll covered also lowering the water level helps alot if your worried

Try blood worms , night crawlers , red wigglers, krill, shrimp and fish meat

I love the spiny eels. They will eat frozen meaty foods. I can't wait until mine goes monster!

hmm...
well.
i think i'll only get one when i find a large one.
growth rates too slow,
plus my small tanks not secure.
so im not gonna try.
thanks for all the input guys.

unless you want to pay alot of money just get a small one. i know a wholesaler and footlong are $110, and fish are always cheap from wholesalers
p.s. good luck finding one that big that the person is willing to sell
