Fire eel scared me!!!!!!!!!!

Yes,every day, lol. My huge eel will even be on it's back completely. The first time i saw it i was also in shock for a quick moment.

My tire track does things like that sometimes. For some reason he likes to rest flat on his side while he's in his tube; and I was also pretty worried the first time I saw him do it.

The only time I noticed this behavior was when my one big female did that when she was full of worms.

Yeah dude, my big un-id'd 'cembelidae will snooze on it's back!

Sometimes visitors to it's tank area inquire why it is in this position. Then I wave my hand around as if to indicate food is on the way, and BAM, 20+" of eel becomes re-animated!

My morays do this, but they kind of hang out of the hole they have the rest of their body crammed into. I wonder if it's normal laziness, or a sign of something wrong :(

Mine are just babies (9-10"?) but if I sneak up on the tank I have caught them in some scary upside down/sideways positions that scare me.. Doesn't happen often thankfully, my footsteps or the fox jumping about hoping for treats usually alerts them before I look, but I've cought them several times lounging in ways that make my hart flutter..
I always fear especially that they share a tank with 3 raph cats and during feedings they often fight they're way into whatever cave or pvc tube the eels are in and I fear injuries with such a spiky body..
Think those cats may move to the "pond" with the cave tetras.
MonsterMinis, how did you know she was full of worms and how exactly did you treat them??
Most of the info I have on worming fish is specific to a problem and/or species specific. I would love to worm my fire eels before I move them!

I Had a tire track eel that would suck himself to the filter intake and just chill there. Was funny as hell to watch.

My experiance was the eel would hang upside down like that.. she also went on a hunger strike for a few weeks and yet her stomach always looked full. She also undulated alot, and seemed to have stomach aches.. I don't know exaclt how to describe it but it reminded me alot of a horse colicing. She would shift.. be fine. then shift some more.. come out and race around. She just seemed aggitated for no apparent reasoning. She never looked "engorged" like alot of scaled fish do, but her stomach never really got sunken or lean, just abit lumpy. And I knew she wasn't eating anything. I did a 5 day tretment with prazi-pro 3 consecutive monthes as a precautionary. Holy worms.. it was nasty... This was also when I first got my eels. Now I worm them every 4-6 monthes like I do my horse just to be safe. as I often give my gars goldfish which can certaintly carry worms. I really regret not documenting it and takeing pictures but at the time I was more concerned about her being sick then anything else.
