I picked up a gorgeous 24" fire eel at my LFS the other day. Unfortunately, he seems to have suffered a series of small scrapes from an artificial driftwood hiding place. I've removed the offending decor and have started slowly adding salt to my tank as a precautionary measure. My question isn't really about the health issues but the aesthetics. The eel has a row of small, relatively superficial white scrapes on its sides and I'm wondering if anyone knows if (and how) they'll heal. Will my eel recover its uniform black coloring, or is he scarred for life?

(unfortunately, I don't have a working digital camera right now)

Occasionally my SA lungfish will get scared and scrape itself on a piece of driftwood but it'll just heal up on its own. I know they are different species but I wouldnt worry about it too much as long as you have good water parameters. Keep an eye on it and it should heal up in a day or two!
