I have a 6-7 inch fire eel who is thriving in my 75 gallon tank and right now it is just him and a sail fin pleco. I was wondering what some good tankmates might be. Maybe some eel loaches? Or might he consider them food? I am going to wait a little bit either way before adding any new fish into my tank. Could angels work with him? I don't want anything too big as to prevent him from coming out or anything too small that could be considered a snack.

Also out of curiosity how old do you think he might be? I've had him for about two weeks.

And yes I know how big they get. I am planning on getting a much bigger tank later on before he gets to big.

I think eel loaches would probably be eaten. Basically anything that won't fit in an adult fire eel's mouth and isn't overly aggressive will be fine. Some fish I'd recommend are: bichirs (any sp. should do well w/ the eel), decent sized gouramis (snakeskins, moonlights, kissing gouramis, etc.), severums, geophagus, SA arowanas, lima shovelnose cats, clown knife fish, any synodontis species over 6-8", tinfoil barbs, silver dollars, bala sharks, medium-large angels, etc. As for its age, it's next to impossible to tell.

bichirs and lima shovelnose cat. :D that what i have with mine.

Cool thanks guy! I really like the severums and geophagus. But I have some time to decide. I appericate the input!
