Best tankmates for a 15 inch fire eel and a 9 inch black ghost knife in a 125 gallon tank.

Tank will already be overstocked with those two fish. The fire eel can reach up to 40” and I know the BGK can reach a pretty large size. Truly, that tank is too small for the fire eel, but I’m not as familiar with the BGK.

I know. I am planning to get a 250 gallon in the future but what would be good with them for now.

Ok. What if I got a fire eel that was 9-10 inches with the 9 inch black ghost knife. Would that be better.

It will still only take the fire eel less than a year to be pushing 18-24”, so unless you plan on upgrading in the next six months, I recommend you hold off on getting another fish.

I will say that with enough water changes, you might get away with adding another fish, but we are talking around a 90% water change at least once a week, maybe twice, and then depending on the type of filter, it may need cleaned out once a week.

I have a medium BGK and a black spotted eel, along with more, in a 150 and I'm doing 75% changes 2x a week to keep things in check. Don't push it with the 125g where it becomes too much of a chore for upkeep where you slowly stop.
