Ok
i have had a 1 foot fire eel and a 15 cm tyre track eel

temps 27 to 29 c
fed on cooked shrimp cut up to pieces.

after 3 weeks of keeping them, they ate alot and i changed water 3 times a week also. so waste isnt a problem.
they both started to convulse after a few weeks. then kinda doing death rolls in the water.... then died.

water params are ok.

strange, this has happened twice to me

i konw people who have them and no problems.

my ideas and PLEASE give me a;ll you can cos i want to try again cos i love these guys.

1: do not feed cooked shrimp
Has anyone done this ? most people say fish fillets or raw shrimp, eventually pellets if possible.

the water temps and params should be fine, do you think it might be the cooked shrimp, its two things i did in common with the two deaths.

If everyone could give me

suggested temps, parameters of water, feeding thta would be great!!!!

Sorry man but that sucks! Sounds like some kind of chemical in your tank but I have no idea! Could it be a piece of your decoration that is leaching? Just curious what is your pH? Hopefully someone has a better idea!

usually 6.5 to 7, after a water change more closer to 7.
there are other fish in the tnak too, they are all ok.
the 1 foot fire i had with a arwowana and a pleco.

the 15 cm tyre track i had a sweetheart parrot and a picture cat

Sorry then no idea. Have you been getting them from the same person? Maybe genetic defect? Just throwing out a shot in the dark...

My experience is that eels (spiny eels, I'm assuming all eels generally behave the same) go kind of nuts when under stress. Mine would swim fast sometimes hitting the wall... They could have head but the tank and done some damage? Very unlikely, but possible.

i really dont know
it seems calm, breathing normal pace. hiding in a hole, eating heaps but i fed it cooked shrimp.
which apparently might be bad for it, indigestion perhaps? - its body was all crooked when it died, seemed like there was still fulll of food in there.

if i give it a try, i will try to feed raw shrimp, and get it onto sinking pellets or massivore pellets... perhaps incasing the pellet in the shirmp and reducing shrimp over time would work well.
thats ideal
i dont like working with raw food for fish, its annoying
or even shrimp or fish ingeneral

yeah the cooked shrimp seems to be your only common factor that might be a problem. Its just not natural for them I guess? my eel would only eat live for a wile. I just kept trying different frozen foods till I found a few things it liked (krill mostly). Use your pellet idea and see if that works but definitely go raw. still this is a guess, my best one though.
