IN YOUR HEAD
i little while ago i bought a fire eel and after a week it choked to death do they choke to death often? if i got another one would it work in this tank...1-silver aro, 1-florida gar, 1-ropefish, 2-black ghost knives, 1-pleco, 8-tinfoil barbs, 3-bala sharks? tank size 72"x24"x24"

Choked to death? Further info, like what it was eating or if it was, would help.

A 180 gallon will hold those guys for a little while, but the aro and gar will definitely be needing a MUCH larger tank eventually. So, if you're prepared for that, and the aro and the gar will be moved when large, then the fire eel could be a consideration.

However, depending on everyone's sizes, I would have a concerns that the eel might look like lunch. A pleco in with the eel can have its problems. I have had certain plecos that will try to munch on my eel. I have a pleco in with my three eels currently and they're fine, so with certain plecos it can be done. The arrow and the gar are the big concern to me. A large arrow or gar (I believe up to 3 feet for both) would easily see a fire eel as a snack unless it was already gigantic. Evens still, I still would be worried they might snap at and injure the eel.

Seeing that you're asking, I think you know it is risky.

it was a 6-8" eel eating what i think was a very large ghost shrimp or a snail i helped it swallow the shrimp and then it tried to regurgitate it and started tieing itself in knots and died. the tank is an oceanic 200gal. the aro will problibly be in my future cat pond the florida gar will stay in the tank it tops out at like 2' if i remember right. my aro is not agressive at all it doesn't mess with my ropefish, knife fish or my 3" tsn. my main consurn was that the eel would get along with my knifes and ropefish...i might be moving my ropefish to a 55gal african chichlid tank though. thanx for your thoughts!

the gar is 8" the aro is 13"-15" the common pleco is 11"-13" the knifes are 8"-10" the barbs and balas are 4" the ropefish is 13"-15" the tsn is 3"(will be in cat pond after it grows up)

i rubbed its throat gently and the shrimp or snail (i didn't see it eat it but there are no rocks or anything else it could have eatten) worked its way through the throat and was no longer stuck...the eel went back to normal until it tried to through it up again.
