1" per month the first 2yrs if fed well. they tend to slow down around the 24" range and go threw growth spurts until they hit 30"+ then slow down to a crawl. 5yrs+ of age then can be 40"+ never heard of one getting bigger then that before.

be careful your tank has no way for him to get out they are great escape artist I had a few get out of my tanks. One time I got lucky and found him in my fluval 110 hiding under the sponge.Another time I found my 16 inch tire track eel stuck in the out flow bulkhead i couldn't find him anywhere until I did a water change and noticed no water was coming out of one side and all I could see was a small piece of his tail. Boy was that a lot of fun trying to get his stinky ass out of there

I have had best of both worlds dealing with Fire eels, i bought one at about 10 inches long and he is obsessed with eating night crawlers so far over the past 3 months he has grown about 2 inches in a 125 gallon tank. I also have a second fire eel that i raised from 5-6 inches long, it eats frozen bloodworms about two times a week and night crawlers 1 day a week, this second one has grown a good 5 inches long and has fattened up quite a bit alone in a 55 gallon tank. Average if fed well a small fire eel should grow about 1 inch per 2weeks-1month
