Fire eel

My fire eel has a white strip on his tail can anyone tell me what it could be from he hides in the PVC pipe for know we have him in a 75 gallon tank in process of putting him in a 180gallon tank with tank mates

IMO it looks like an area he has caught on the pvc pipe when in too much of a rush to get in or out. Should heal quickly and naturally over a couple of days.

Should I get a 800 watt heater for the 180gallon tank I read that a 800 watt heater is to much but that's what it said to get for that size of a tank
