ok a little birdy once told me that fire eels are brackish water fish...mind you, this is after i had already bought it and put it in my tank with my oscars and my arowana...i know brackish water fish need some salinity in the water... does this mean if i wanted to get another one i would have to put it in its own tank or would it be ok to put it in the tank with my oscars again?

also... this eel commited suicide by jumping out the tank... this could be caused by the lack of salinity in the water... i dunno, im a little confused.

Can someone clue me in on what i can/should do??!!

much appreciated!:headbang2

Who told you they were brackish? They are freshwater.

I have a question... I currently have a 75 gal tank with 3 Oscars 2 fire eels and 3 plecos. I try and feed my plecos algae discs but the Oscars eat them before they can get to them. My question is, should I use a divider at night to separate my Oscars from the others so they are able to eat? or what can I do to ensure that my eels and plecos are getting fed?

A divider will work. Both oscars and fire eels are NOT suitable for a 75 long term. Oscars ideally need 125 and you could keep all 3 in a 180. Same goes for the eels.

I'm going to agree/disagree here. a single Oscar could be alright in a 75 I think, but 2 no way. a fire eel, while extremely flexible is easily capable of 30"+ lengths in aquariums. I wouldn't keep one in less than a 250-300 gallon...I want one for my 310 and that's only 36 inches wide...
