Haven't posted on here in a while, but I've had an empty 75g tank for a while now and was wanting a Flowerhorn. Got the tank all set up, and my LFS had this guy in stock! He says it's a Fireman's Dream Flowerhorn. I'm not sure if he is or isn't one, but I'm absolutely in love with him! I'd like to add to ask, what do you all keep in your tanks. This is my first flower horn and right now it's an empty bare bottom 75g. I'm not used to having an empty tank and am not sure what is recommended for tank substrate/ decorations/ toys for them as I want him to have the best life possible and have read different things. Thanks!

Probably is not an actual fireman’s dream line Flowerhorn but just another goldenbase. A real cool one though. I would just do a good 1 inch or so layer of gravel and some small rocks that he can move around and mess with. Toys, sure, if you can find some that he’ll play with. I wouldn’t do any decorations as to give him as much swimming space as possible and risk of him hurting himself on some.

Another question! So I'm reading a lot about lighting and how it affects the way the flowerhorn looks (I need a new light for that tank, I'm using a very basic light at the moment). What lights do you guys recommend to really make the colors pop? Should I use something like the Beamswork DA Full Spectrum light over a basic light? Or is there a different light that you guys would recommend? I want him to be happy and colorful, so I'm open to suggestions. Thanks!

Finnex 24/7 led strip lights. You can try a ping pong ball and silk vines for him to drag around and play with too. Tip: go a bit shorter strip for tanks for super lighting effect. Like if the tank is 48" get a 36" strip. Makes nice shadow borders on the sides and adds depth. Just set the timer on 24/7 and it will go through full daylight to evening modes. You can customize each setting mode too. If the tank is over 60" get 2 strips that will cover the span.

As for the silk vines, just rinse 'em and bunch them up for a nice 'quiet zone' . You can even tangle them or weigh them down with a rock.
