Firemouth and Ram cichlids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I wouldn't really call it a fight ... a massacre would come closer once the firemouths put on some size.

What about putting the rams cichlids with the guppies cause I've done a lot of research and found that there are compatible tank mate but i dont know how they will react?

I don't know if the guppies can handle the high heat the rams like, never kept them before. But behavior wise it should work, guppies stay near the top and out of the way of the rams along the bottom.

I've got a Bolivian Ram, Gold Ram, and Blue Ram in with golden barbs, cherry barbs, snakeskin barbs, and neon and black neon tetras, no one has any problems, everyone leaves everyone alone. The Ram cichlids haven't even shown the slightest bit of aggression towards any others...
I'd go for it.
Edit: My tank stays around 78 degrees or so, good for the gold and bolivian ram, little low for the blue, but he doesn't seem to be suffering any ill effects.

ok thank dark rose. i have my tank at about 78 to and my pH is about 7.5 though so that the only thing im worried about with the rams now

M. ramirezi seem to do better long term with higher temps, 80+. That means golds, blues, and electric blues. M. altispinosus (Bolivians) will do okay with lower temps.

As for the guppies, I am keeping rams at 84F with Endler's livebearers and the Endler's are spawning like crazy and pumping out fry. I don't think the temps are slowing them down. I do know they can handle lower temps, too, because I have some at 78F or so in a few other tanks.
