It's just not something I would have even considered but apparently it can happen or at least all the signs were there . Does anyone have any knowledge of this happening and the end result ? I've pulled my Texas out of the tank for now as the aggression got pretty rough and seeming for no other reason that I can see possible , he stopped tolerating everything but the firemouth .

Not that hybrids are a good idea, but any Central, in fact any cichlid of Tribe Heroini lineage (including some S Americans), can interbreed.
Results are often less than stellar, producing generic progeny, "most" with less color, and a kind of homogenous look.
Similar to that of when different dog breeds, breed and produce generic mutts.

I hadn't planned on letting it happen it just got me kind of curious as to whether or not anyone had such a hybrid and what their attitude was like I know both can be pretty nasty when they want to be

It can happen. Most CA cichlids can interbreed.
These things can happen. It's fairly common for different species to have breeding behavior towards each other. It stinks because it causes chaos and aggression toward innocent tankmates. This happened with my male Carpintis and my pink female Convict before. Weird how nature works lol.

Both are old enough to breed.
Imagine something with the body of a firemouth and a red chest, but with Texas pearling.

Yep my bp and convict paired. Infertile, but the female con is boss of the tank (at least she thinks so).

Not a good comparison using dogs as a example. Cross bred dogs are now nearly as popular as pedigree in the UK. Far better dogs with a lot less health issues. The British bull dog is a good example, poor things can hardly breathe.
But I do agree most hydride fish are drab unattractive mutts, and are best culled.
