I’ve had a pair of firemouths for about a month now and I’m not sure if hey are males or females, over the past few days I have noticed their colours brighten up and they have started going side by side and flaring up and swimming in a circle together, they don’t go to attack eachother though, is this a sign it’s a male and female getting ready to lay eggs or is it just normal Firemouth behaviour. Thanks

It sounds like breeding behavior but can be 2 males trying to establish dominance.

How big are they? I'm assuming they're a relatively decent size if they're showing color, but thoricthys as a genus tends to grow pretty slow so that's another factor here IMO (in the event that they aren't sexually mature and are just fighting).
If they are a decent size, there is always venting.

More than likely a pair. Looks like one to me

In the first and second pic, the one in the front male and back female. Male has slightly longer dorsal fin.
