So I have two firemouth cichlids and they won't eat floating pellets. They eat pellets that have sunk or flakes but they won't eat from the top. I've had them for almost a month now and they are about 2 - 2.5 inches. What would you suggest me try I have two bags of hikari gold that I don't want to go to waste.

Try soaking the pellets in tank water before you feed. They should sink after they absorb some water.

Or wait them out and only feed the floating food. Eventually they should take the floating food no problem.

Alright thank you I'll have to try that. I've always liked my cichlids eating pellets, but never had a problem like this.

I would offer exclusively. Hunger will win. I haven't had a cichlid starve themselves yet and I basically 1 type of food

Starve them or soak them in bloodworms

Agree with last post. They will feed from the surface but it's their true nature to feed from the substrate.
