I Have A 40 gallon with 1x 2.5 inch Firemouth. (and a fathead minnow as a dither...)
WHAT OTHER CICHLID CAN GO WITH HIM???
(NO convicts, NO more Firemouths)

WOULD A BLOOD PARROT WORK???

I had a 50 gallon aquarium that housed 3 full grown firemouths and 1 parrot fish they seemed to get along pretty well but the firemouths would chase the blood parrot away whenever they were breeding but other than that they seemed to go well with each other.

A jack dempsy or jewel cichlid (if you are not adverse to throwing an African in with a CA/SA) - I tend to try and have all female cichlids if I do not plan on them having fry - it just seems to keep the tank a little more peaceful.

I have also had good luck with salvini cichlids with firemouths and others.

I have severums, parrots, lace catfish, and albino plecos in my tank with 4 firemouths, all get along but my tank is 125g. your tank is rather small to add anymore fish.

Usually Jack Dempseys mix well with Firemouths and Oscars... Mixing other cichlids is always going to cause potential problems though... Either the Firemouths will bully them or they will get attacked by the other cichlids. Firemouths are easily stressed if not happy so for me the best plan is just to keep firemouths with other Firemouths in a big enough tank or other species like larger barbs or catfish.

Ellioti are to aggressive and could cross breed, Jewels can be nasty and sajica can be to soft for a dominant male Firemouth.

Just noticed you said you have a 40 gallon tank so... I'd say 3 or 4 Firemouths and a few medium sized catfish... not enough space for Jack Dempseys and Oscars.
