firemouth convict blue acara tank mix????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
that mix could work in a 55g! i would replace the blue acara with a salvini though. blue acaras are kinda... blah. im not a huge fan of them. a female salvinis colors blow blue acaras away.

I love my blue acara sounds like a sweet setup. They are very robust fish with a eager personality.

I don't think a 55 gal. would be that great for a firemouth and a similar size cichlid.I've had better luck w/ firemouths and gt or jd. In witch case a 55 gal. is to small any way.
I've found firemouths to be relentless bluffers, and tail nippers. If you did that combo I doubt any fish would ever rest.

Blue Acaras aren't bad fish they can be very colorful. Although mine is a bit of a toad.lol

In conclusion imo 55gal. aquariums are kind of bastards.Really to small for more than 1 or maybe 2 cichlids of small to medium size.2 if you find that rite combo of compatible cichlids, and decor arrangements.

I wish you good luck on your quest.:)

yea sounds like a good setup!...make sure to get them all at the same size...

in a 55 i would be careful and keep an eye on the convict, acaras are tough for there size but no where near the toughness of a con.
i would be more concerned for the fm though, they dont grow as fast as the other 2 and arent as tough as them either, i would make sure the fm was a little bigger if i were doing this set up.
let the fm dominate early on or its likely to get picked on by the acara and con, the con will likely take over in time but by then the fm will be better equipped to look after itself. or keep a close eye on them if you get them at the same size.
if i knew then what ive gained from experience now, and it were my setup, i would add a slightly larger fm a couple of weeks before the other 2 and add the other 2 together once the fm has settled in.
this is just from my experience of the 3 fish species you mentioned though so you may have a totally different one.

I do, but that's why I like this forum,& fish keeping. You see all sort of different angels, ideas, & opinions. Heck who knows, this may turn out to be a very peaceful setup.
