Does anyone have any experience with keeping Firemouths in communities with larger Cichlids, such as Amphilophus or Vieja ? Could a few of them live with a breeding pair, in a 180 gallon ?

I'm sure we have all been through the "not knowing what we want" stage  I know i have ! I have re-housed quite a few fish with friends, that i thought i wanted and then decided i wanted something different in the past. I have recently aquired some Breidohri, that i have decided will not be leaving this house under any circumstances.

Depending on sex i'm not too sure whether to have a pair, or split them and have one in the 180 with maybe a xiloaensis or Midas, and the other single. Depending on aggression issues.

Either way i would like to have some smaller activity going on in the tank. I've been considering.

Firemouths, Convicts, Honduran Red Points, Sajica. Maybe a few Tinfoils or Silver Dollars, to name a few.

If anyone has any advice or suggestions on stocking, maybe some smaller fish that i haven't mentioned please let me know.

Thanks.

The Firemouths I've kept were always relentlessly bullying smaller fish so I wouldn't keep them with anything smaller than them. They tend to leave fish of the same size (or bigger) alone. They never did any serious damage but it got kinda old seeing small fish being chased into hiding 24/7.

I know what you mean. I have had aggressive tanks and after a while, worrying about how many fish you will have left when you get home from work gets too much :hitting:

I would like to keep it as peaceful as possible with the Breidohri the centre piece of the tank. I would just like to have some smaller fish too. Maybe some loaches or schooling fish that are not the usual Silver dollars.

Perhaps i should change the title of this thread to "can my oscar live in a 10 gallon tank" to get a few more people in here

i have some breihdohri in a 130 with some other grow outs. Blue acara, yellow Acara, Red hump geo, firemouth, ellioti, inka stone fish, yellow firemouth, nanoleutus, robertsoni. red head geo, and other... Like i said im growing out these guys and will most like move some fish to my other tanks. But so far i do not see much aggression, just little chase here and there. I have desame idea with the breidohri and some small community. I know i got some south and central which has some different needs and aggression, so having extra tanks for me is a must. Good luck with your plan. Do some research and put a community that you like and hope that it works..
