I’ve got a question. I think i may need to rehome my FM, as he is constantly attacking my GT. I know this is kind of playing god, but do you think It wouldn’t be a dumb thing to try and replace the firemouth with a smaller Salvini?

I’d just remove the firemouths. Salvinis are way more aggressive and will result in similar or worse behavior.

What size tank?
It sounds like the G.T. has already decided the entire tank is its territory, and its possible any other cichlid you try to add will be attacked, especially if the tank is small.

75 gallon tank, and it’s quite the opposite. GT has no territory pretty much and whenever he tries and swim out from back of tank firemouth flares up at him and scares him to the back of the tank again. The two are in a tank with a convict and jack dempsey as well but they cause no major issues. Want to remove Firemouth because he is harassing GT and feel like if I add a salvini that is much smaller than the rest of the cichlids he will grow up timid toward them and not be aggressive

I can speak on experience that salvini are crazy and do not care how big or what the other fish is.
Noted i’ll stay away from them then. It’ll only be my GT convict and JD left in the tank, any other cichlids you all think would fit well in this group?

Your tank is only big enough for the gt when it's fully grown. I would add nothing, and I would also expect more problems with your existing stock as time goes by.

I know that and I do plan on rehoming the fish once they get too big but at the size they are right now and for the next year or so there is plenty of room to have another cichlid to enjoy raising and growing out as well that’s all I’m saying

I don't think you will have a year or so.
As cichlids start to reach sexual maturity, they will become aggressive. All your fish reach sexual maturity quite quickly. Firemouth may be the slowest to reach maturity and is already giving you problems.
