I have several chiclids in my tanks all live together for almost a 6 months now. I have 2 Firemouth. I usually feed these fish pellets. Every body eats the pellets even the other firemouth. But one of the firemouth has stop eating for over a week now. Color and everything about him is perfect still and acting normal.

Any reason why 1 of my Firemouth would not be eating? I know that there can be a lot of different answer but if any of you guys have this similar issue I would love some advice. He eats it and then spits it back out. Don't fish get hungry?

~ thank you

HI THERE.
I HAD THE SAME PROBLM A FEW DAYS BACK WITH MY OSCAR . i DON KNO IT IS SHEER FISH MOOD. MINE SURVIVED ONE MONTH WITH OUT ANY FOOD INTAKE N WAS FINE N NORMAL HE USED TO INGEST THE FOOD N THEN SPIT OUT. MY ADVISE IS TO MAINTAIN GOOD WATER PARAMETERS AND LET IT B BY IT SELF IT WOULD BE FINE.

did it survive?

it might just be on a hunger strike, i've had it happen with a jag of mine. he just up and decided he didn't like pellets anymore and now he'll only touch them if i fast him for a day. so he gets fed every other day.

Yeah I agree they can just go on a hunger strike sometimes, but it can also maybe have to do with a tankmate too. What are the other cichlids in there? What someone said about them deciding one day they do not like pellets is also a possiblity. Some fish will just get sick of the brand (this happened to me alot back in the day when I used Hikari). You may just wasnt to change the brand. Let us know how it all worked out Firemouth's are a old fav of mine very cool fish!:)

I am sure it is nothing to serious but i have a few questions :what are the other fish in the tank? ,are the firemouths different sexes? ,is everything ok as far as water perameters?
The first thing i would try though is to starve the whole tank for a day and then feed them with a treat of live food ,or chopped worm. i hope this is a help and everything works out ok keep posting.

you might want to try something other than the pellets; depending on how big the firemouth is you could try an earthworm or mealworm. when my fish decides to stop eating and won't take pellets at all i usually toss one of them in there just to make sure that it gets atleast some kind of food. they should really only be used as treats, but he goes nuts for them.

You guys ever heard of an Albino Oscar that didnt want Live earthworms? He's about 9" (tail not included of course) i only usually feed him awide variety of Hikari gold, and other pellets as well as Frozen beefheart which he will eat but has grown tired of the beefheart..BUt the pellets he still loves.

I had a GT do this, and currently I have a Blue Acara doing this. They would eat but small nipples here and there. They spit food out or ignore it. All the other fish pig out and the Blue Acara just swims back and forth like he usually does and completely ignores feeding time. Some days he doesnt eat and some days he will be waiting by the top and he will eat a pellet and then swims away. And when he eats hes almost like lazy about it. I dont know whats wrong. I try different foods. Sometimes a loss of appetite could be due to a parasite. Ive seen him scratch before, but he doesnt appear sick at all.

Does this describe your fish?
