I recently bought 2 new firemouths from the lfs and instead of being red they are orange. Could this be a possible "color morph"? They are only about 1" - 1 1/2" but from what I can remember even when my others were that small they were still red not bright orange like these are. I will try to post pics a.s.a.p!

at that size they are probably stressed, and their colors haven't stabilized. Give them time. BTW, WELCOME TO MFK!!!

the could be a couple of thing.....
stressed so wont produce its best colour if it was happy-you just got it so still could be stressed of the move.
Tho.meeki's red throat increases in age and when they mature
About the colour morph i dout it because i have never seen any albino etc and Mr.firemouth is the king of firemouths and he hasnt got any...yet. if its not all those i would say you have a different thoricthys.sp, check the more common like aureus and ellioti/maculipinnis.my money is a different sp would be on the ellioti.

I agree with the others. I bet it's not quite settle ini yet.

To really bring out the orange, I feed Krill. Frozen or freeze dried doesn't really matter IME, but man they'll color up nice for ya

Here's a pic of my old Male who died this past summer. I know, I know you've seen it before, but I love this pic. These two would stare eachother down all the time. Very entertaining! :D

Good luck
