How would you sex a firemouth if you only have one?

I added some sc but his color comes and goes. He is the only cichlid in the tank.

Vent it. They are hard to sex visually I've heard a few different ways of visually but none ever worked for me.

Btw use black or dark coffee sand to bring out the colors more

Males have sharp pointed tube toward the anal fin. Females have thick downward pointing tube. What are you trying to cross breed it with.

Ok thanks. I want to cross it with a white con. I got an image stuck in my head of a white con with the red and sparkles of the firemouth, so now I want to try and see if I can make the fish real.
