I have had this pair of firemouth about a month, I hadnt planned to buy them but a mate was selling them and they are one of my favourite fish from when I first kept fish in 1991. The male is a cracker
I had no idea they had laid eggs and I assume they did that in a pipe they have made home but tonight come in from work put lights on and they had babies in the corner. There are millions of them

No I know but thats in there for the tiger fish and payara that are growing out in there I dont particularly want babies and expect them to be food for the others at some point

I'm going to add another 4 ft in a space I have created in the garage for them in a few weeks

They should be fine with the powerhead, the way I spawn finickier ca stuff is I run the powerhead for a few weeks, do a cold waterchange and turn it off, let them spawn, and turn it back on once the fry are free swimming. The extra oxygen helps a bit with growth as long as they're able to get food.

Great to hear was just worried about the free-swimming fry getting pulled in the wave maker.

Oh yeah don't worry about that, they're surprisingly good at fighting against things trying to suck them up. My nanolutea fry used to graze off of an active powerhead

yeah they were in there before the firemouth as I got the tank to grow them out but someone offered me these firemouth and I couldnt refuse
ohhh gotcha, I thought they were still in the tank, lol
