So I have been keeping fish for several years now and have never purchased feeders. Well for some reason I decide I would try out some because I wanted to see my cichlids and my rays eat live (different tanks) So I came home and wife just got done feeding the rays so I ended up putting all the feeders in my african cichlid tank, well next morning 2 were dead. Now the grand total is 6 dead fish, only 2 remain and they are to large to add new ones (about 4-5 each) so if they survive I will have to give them to the pet store and get a new stock and grow them out.

Never again will I use feeders. I'm just glad I didnt put them in with the rays.

store bought feeders almost always=bad idea. Im sorry to hear about your africans though. Good luck with your new stock let us know what ya end up with.

That's rough, sorry to hear that. I've used feeders on occasion for some time, but now I make sure ey get a serious bath in chemicals for w week, then I fatten em up for another few weeks. It's a pain, but worth seeing my big henlei and odor hunt them IMO.

Been there and feel for you. Never use store bought feeders unless you qt them first.

Sorry :( The best and only way to do feeders is to buy a couple of convicts and let them breed or a couple of livebreeders.

If you wanna give your fish live feeders in the future, my personal suggestion would be to set up a 20-30 gallon throw a bunch of plants in it and a few guppies and let em breed.

sorry about your loss, but at least it wasn't the rays!

I use insects for my live food. mostly superworm/nightcrawlers/mealworms. having a small breeding colony of easy livebearers is always a great idea also.

Fortunately I had heard the feeders purchased from LFS is a bad idea. I recently bought a small 3.5 gallon, put a few guppies in and are going to raise them for my cichlids. Sorry to hear about your loss...Devastating. Fortunatley the rays are ok!
