Cleaned the tank this morning, and decided to try placing the pair together. I didn't realize it was a pair but you mfkers help out quite a bit with id, thanks much. Never new females got kok. With the day off, I been keeping a eye on them while the family and I watched Star Wars, their first time, whole series. Anyhow all looks good. No aggression and no feeding until this is done. I'm not expecting anything but at least they could gain some experience and me as well.

Is it possible to keep them as a pair permanently? Or will I have to separate? I noticed he gets aggressive when fed, is it normal to fast them?

Few things I noticed. For being so small she's one nasty b$&c! Also her tube looks huge now, how long would it be before eggs? Kids want to see. The glass has been covered with newspaper except a half inch slit horizontaly lengthwise so we can peek.

Just excited and wanted to share. Had good advice on egg crate method but lazy and home all day so we'll see.

Any additional comments or tips welcome and appreciated.

Few quick picks! Right now he really hates us when nearby. Lol

Some people fast thinking it help digestive system. Females are much meaner than males in my experience, especially when trying to breed.

Keeping together for life is risky cause one of them can turn on the other anytime and do damage.

Breeding--- sometimes it takes the male a few trys to get his part right. After I suspect he fertilized eggs I remove him. I use to joke that fh favorite food is fh eggs/fry. Also if breeding attempt fails they can get aggressive with each other. If her tube dropped then eggs coming any day now. You should notice her cleaning off a spot where she's going to lay. Good luck.

Thanks for the responses and advice. They been getting along great the last few days. Swimming around together and digging a massive crater. I got a bit worried about them not eating and feed them during my lunch break. When I got home just now, I noticed the female took a thrashing from him And her tube shrunk a lot. Feeling pretty bad about her and they are again separated. This has been a challenging and exciting hobby. I tip my hat to you breeders out there. I thought just putting male And female would do it, but I obviously have much to learn. Dosed with melafix and hoping her woulds heal well.

Some photos of them after divider installed, excuse the dust.

Would it be better growing them in separate tanks if I want to try again another time? I can divide the 80? Or will the be better off in their own tanks? 80g and 70g.View attachment 941012

why you dont want to feed till this is done?

You gotta feed them alot. And he's aggressive to her when you feed them is only because he's a selfish ahole that's all..

You need to feed them good especially the female so she can be conditioned and ready to lay. Load her up with raw food like frozen bw or smashed shrimps. If her tube is out and fat, Then do a water change and give them privacy and they should do the thing soon after water change if they are bonded. If female dont like her male, she'll hold it and not lay or whoop is azz to lay. Doesn't seem like your case though. GL. I wouldnt expect anything from this tiny male though.
