Hi guys,
I am new to MFK forums, would very much appreciate your advice and guidance.

I have just discovered Bichir/Polypterus, fascinating fish! I am looking to purchase my first one. Saw this one White Senegalus Bichir at the pet store and he/she looks active and friendly, except it looks like it has a broken back!!! Is this normal?? Does not look like any photos of Bichir i have seen. Is it OK if i adopt him even if he has a broken back? Seems like a very friendly fellow. :D

Very sorry if this is a stupid question. :P

Attached are photos.

Regards,
teohha

its got a deform body, and perhaps its genetically born like that, I saw few of those on the lfs here, funny enough just yesterday I walked into lfs and I saw a deform delhezy around 5".

umm, i would wait and get another one.. cause it will grow up looking funny cause of the broken back, unless you dont care about how it look you can get him.. but poly bichir dont look like that.. the 3rd pic. the one on the left look ok.. u might want to pick him/her up

Thanks for the advice guys.
I have kind of taken a shin to the little guy. Would the deformity reduce a bichir's life span?
He/She seems to have black eyes, does this mean he is a platinum Senegalus? Would platinums be more expensive at the pet store?
Sorry.. many newbie questions.

no. shortbody are thicker and look stubby.. it short and ther height is tall.. so it look werid.. you can tell because it will catch ur eye.. it kinda hard finding a shortbody draw it on this.. id it white and has black eye, it can possbily be a plat..

Hi Ahmad you can get plenty of bichir senegalus from Pet Safari Ikano Power Center. This one is at Centre Point i can't remember the store name. I have seen quite a number of shops with bichir actually.
