Alright so I got into fish keeping around 2 months ago. I have always been interested in fish and water etc... But I decided to get a 45 tall and I have loved that. I have already got bored with that tank though so I decided to go bigger (as big as I can right now, since I still live with my parents and have to move my 45tall to the living room and have another 20g long in my room with convicts in it. But anyway I got a used 90gallon from a employee at my local fish store and he sold it to me for 100 dollars which was only the tank. Which for around me is not that bad of a deal. I definitely can't afford to buy a stand for it since they cost around $300. So I figured I can put one together with my uncle since were both pretty good with this kind of stuff. I would also like to know what or how much the other stuff I am going to need will run and what would be ideal. I know as far as hoods I have always had the I guess standard Black hood with the glass in the center with the black light on top. But I haven't seen many big tanks with those kind of hoods and lights, so what would be a good idea to use as lighting/top. Another question I am going to go ahead and paint the back of the tank with some apple barrel acrylic paint and the bottom in case I end up wanting a bare bottom at some point, but if I want to use substrate would pool filter sand be a good choice? I can get it for free and as much as I want since my dad builds pools for a living. For filtration I was thinking a Aqua Clear Power Filter 110 possibly 2 or would it better to go with a Canister and a Aqua Clear? I was also thinking of maybe getting a Powerhead of some sort (I think this is what they are called) they keep the water circulating in the tank. Sorry for the kinda stupid questions but I just want to do this tank up right the first time and get it perfect. I am going to keep updating this thread as I go along in case I have any questions and to show how its going. Hope I catch some peoples interest.

Check out ebay and get a canister filter, I only have fluval, you could get away with a 405, and a power heads not a bad idea either. What kind of fish are you putting in this tank? As for pool sand I don't know, you could try it, I would wash it before you put it on let your tank cycle for 2 weeks and throw in a couple gold fish

I was just looking into a 405. I am not 100% on what filtration I want to use yet I am sure it will be over kill though just cause I rather have more then enough filtration then not enough. Once I get my stand built though I will start looking more into everything like that. Hopefully I can talk to my uncle tomorrow and see if he is interested in helping me make a stand if he can't help then my friends dad is a carpenter and I am sure we could knock a stand out in less then a day. As for fish I was really wanting to get a Jaguar maybe a female I know someone who has been breeding them and talked to him about it. If it got to big he said he would take it or find someone who would be interested in buying it from me.

Going to start building the stand for this tank hopefully in the next week or so. Just wondering from people who have made stands in the past is it difficult? I have never done this and it doesn't look like its to hard but alot of things start out that way and end up being more difficult then they should be. I am going to include a picture for the type of stand I plan on building let me know if you have any tips or anything I could add or do to make this better. (This is not a picture of my stand just one I found on Google images that I am looking at for an idea of what I want)
