A family member recently asked me for help setting up a brackish tank, this will be my first brackish tank as well as his first "large" tank (by large I mean over 15 gal). He is going to use a standard 55 gal, right now he has a regular 55 gallon HOB filter(not sure what brand). My stock and equipment suggestions are below please tell me what you think. Also we were talking about doing puffers, what kinds and how many?

Equipment
~Aquaclear 110
~Marineland Stealth Heater for 55 gal tank (250w I believe)
~pair of 48" flourescent lights using a shop light
and if needed the existing filter for extra filtration

Stock list
1 ~ Snowflake Morray
2- 3 ~ Scats
2 ~ Archer Fish
1 - 2 ~ Puffers

i think that shouls be fine, except that eel might snack on those puffers

I would also do either scats or archers
if you did archers leave like half filled so they could do there natural behavior and spit at food or what ever with some branches hanging over.
and if you did scats well fill the tank and make it just as cool

anyway do what you like,:D

i have a scat,1archer,5monos,2gsp's,1dragon goby,2 shark cats.75 gallon tank. Two cannister filters,1aquqclear110,18watt uv sterilizer,protein skimmer.

He is tryin to keep both the initial cost and the maintenence down hence the low stock, are their any brackish puffers that get larger? I have seen some in LFS that are 3 or 4 and about 1.5" around, are these straight fresh.

GSPs grow to 6" (not including their tail) & require 30g ea. Scats grow the size of a dinner plate & require 50g ea. They are BW fishy garbage cans--the equivilant of FW oscars & CW goldfish.
