i wanted to check my filter as it has been running for about 3 months now , so i turned it off and lifted the lid ,

i removed the top blue sponge tray''CAREFULLY''(i use the eheim recomended brand )and gave it a wash in some tank water ,, it was good to see that the sponge was taking hold of all the big stuff ,, i decided to leave the rest of the filtration ''UNDISTURBED''as the sponge did seem a lot cleaner on the other side ,,

so i refitted the top sponge , sealed it all up and primed it and turned it back on ,,

the kick of pressure or something must have dislodged some of the white tissue type build up that i have on the inside of the flexi pipes and internal filter walls etc and turned my tank into a christmas snow globe ,,

i dont really know why this filter did this but i do remember a thread on here somewhere about someone else getting floaties i think he called it ,,

sooo,, as i was kind of unimpressed with this feature of the ehiem professional 3 2080 i am going to buy a fluval fx5 for my second tank ,,

unless someone here tells me i did something wrong ??? maybe i should have stripped it all down and washed the whole lot and changed the pipes while at it,, but this would surely rid too much bacteria ,,

any comments:confused:

It is very common to see the whitish discharge after restarting the filter. It comes from the buildup of bacteria, etc in the hoses. It will happen on all filters. Nothing to worry about.

I'm running both and the eheim is buy far the better filter guy. The white stif just grow's in the hoses ut a net underthe the water out when cleaning. You wont be impressed with the fx5 i have 2 on my 220 gal and just swapped out one for a eheim pro 3 and im already impressed with the one wek flow rate.

cheers for giving me confidence ,, i am a newbie for externals ,so thought i would check if it is ok for this to happen,, i know it will be clear in a hour or so but did wonder if it was normal,,

it happens.. a small chunk of scrubbie or a small wad of filterfloss is a great way to clean them suckers out... bottle brushes are the best but the less you yank on the U pipes the better
